Over 30? Here Are Six Essential Skin Care Tips
If you’re in your thirties then it’s likely you’ve started to see some of the normal signs of aging like fine lines, sun damage, or a visible loss of collagen. Let’s be clear: there’s nothing wrong with aging, and 30 is not old by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, ramping up your skin care routine can help keep your skin looking fresh and in turn you’ll feel more confident!
Wear Sunscreen Every Day – As you’ve probably heard a thousand times before, UV damage is a major factor in skin aging more quickly, so it’s important to wear sunscreen every day – yes, even when it’s cloudy outside. Some foundations even have SPF built in!
Invest in a Good Moisturizer – With aging often comes skin dryness and rough patches. Moisturizer is a great way to help the skin look smoother and more uniform, but you need to make sure you pick one that’s right for your skin type. For example, if you have dry skin, opt for a heavier, oil-based variety. On the other hand, if you have oily skin, try a lighter, water-based formula. Pro tip: apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp after cleansing. It’ll spread more easily that way and sink into your skin better. Just pat dry afterward and you’re good to go!
Don’t Be Afraid to Visit the Dermatologist – When you were in your twenties you probably got by just fine without ever visiting a dermatologist over your skin concerns. But as you age certain skin conditions – such as rosacea, adult acne, or even skin cancer – might start creeping up on you and it’s always good to get those checked out by a professional!
Try out a Serum – If you’re anything like us then you probably didn’t venture into the world of serums at all in your twenties, but here’s why you should think about starting: there’s a serum for practically every skin concern, from dryness to anti-aging to fighting acne. Serums also absorb very quickly into the skin, making them perfect to use after cleansing.
Stop Using Makeup Wipes – Makeup wipes are a convenient way to remove makeup without much effort, but they’re also harsh on your skin. Instead, try a gentle face wash (or even coconut oil and a flat face pad) to remove all of the makeup, oil, and bacteria from your face. Oh, and in case you weren’t doing this already, make sure you thoroughly remove all makeup every night before bed (yes, even if you got back from the bars at 2am and you’re ready to pass out immediately). Trust us, it’ll save you from infection and waking up with a new breakout the next morning.
Drink Plenty of Water – We know, we know…you already knew this, but we’re going to remind you again. Drinking enough water helps to flush out toxins, maintain skin elasticity, prevent acne, and more. Cheers, we’ll drink to that! (Water, that is.)
